One bearer of the Miller name with a particularly endearing claim to fame is the Scottish poet William Miller – fondly known for the children’s nursery rhyme Wee Willie Winkie.
Born in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow in 1810, ill-health forced him to abandon his medical studies and instead become a carpenter and cabinetmaker.
Known as “The Laureate of the Nursery”, it was in 1842 that his Whistle-binkie: Stories for the Fireside – containing his famous Wee Willie Winkie – was published.
