Born in the small Welsh village of Pontrhydyfen in 1925, Richard Walter Jenkins was the award-winning actor better known by his stage name of Richard Burton; married and divorced twice to fellow Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor, his screen credits include the 1953 The Rose, the 1966 Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolf? and, from 1969, Anne of the Thousand Days.
